From education to the biggest business, everything is being done through these gadgets. On one hand, where the major contribution of these gadgets is in improving our life, on the other hand, there are many disadvantages as well. Actually, due to spending hours on laptop, computer and mobile phone, people’s ability to see their eyes is ending. According to a 2021 report by the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 2.2 billion people suffer from near or far vision impairment globally. Due to prolonged screen time, people are facing problems like headache, blurred vision, vomiting etc.

Dr. Amrita Kapoor Chaturvedi, Senior Consultant, Dept. of Ophthalmology at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said that people who stay on the screen for more than 8 hours a day, their eye structure starts changing and the length of the eyeball increases, which leads to myopia. The danger remains. After the global pandemic corona, the risk of myopia in children has increased. In myopia, near objects appear clearly but distant objects appear blurred. The doctor told that it is believed that after the age of 18 the eyesight of children becomes stable.

But, in the last few years, it has been seen that till the age of 20 to 25 years, people are being advised to wear spectacles so that the eyesight can be stable. The ability to see the eyes of children who were already wearing glasses has increased a lot due to online classes in the epidemic. The doctor said that the muscles of convergence, which bring the eyes closer to each other, when we look at the same thing for a long time, it leads to headaches, blurred vision and sometimes loss of concentration.

When a person continuously looks at the screen for hours, the rate of blinking of the eyes also decreases. Due to this a person develops tear film abnormalities. Due to this, pain, grittiness and redness come in them.

If you have to work on the screen for hours, then try to work on the big screen. Use desktop instead of mobile or laptop. If you want, while working on the screen, you can increase its size and fonts so that you do not have trouble seeing.

follow 20/20/20 minutes

Dr. Chaturvedi said to take a break for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. For this, you can set a reminder on your mobile or desktop that tells you that after 20 minutes you have to take a break. During the break, you have to stay away from the screen for at least 6 meters and half a minute. The American Optometric Association also recommends the 20/20/20 rule. Take a break from the screen every 20 minutes and focus on something 20 feet away. Do this for 20 seconds so that there will be no strain of screentime on the eyes. At the same time, small children should stay away from the screen for at least 10 minutes every hour.

lubricating eye drops

Staring at the screen for a long time causes dryness in the eyes. That’s why use lubricating eye drops. For this you should first contact your doctor and then take any drop.

Do this if you do not take medicine

If you do not want to take medicine or drops for dryness of the eyes, then for this you can do the exercise of blinking. Do blinking exercise twice a day for 20 to 30 seconds. Actually, when you are working for hours on the screen, you forget to blink. Due to this the eyes start drying. Take a break from the screen after 1 to 2 hours and open and close your eyes 10 to 15 times continuously.
